The fully worked red body gives the piece an intense, creature-like appearance, with sculpted horns, sharp teeth, expressive eyes and layered character details transforming the rig into a distinctive sculptural piece from every angle.
Kahuna’s Scalien designs blend imaginative character work with functional glassblowing, and this piece is a strong example of that style. About the Artist:
Chris Kauhane, also known as Kahuna Glass, began blowing glass in 2008 and has developed his craft across the Lower Mainland and Oahu, Hawai'i. Now based in Vancouver, B.C., his work is recognized for imaginative character-driven glass, including his signature Scalien designs. Kauhane continues to create original pieces and collaborate with established artists while developing his distinctive approach to functional glass art.
